Back to the Future Day presents Time Machine and other gadgets

News

“When this baby hits 88 MPH we’re gonna see some serious shit!” – Emmet ”Doc” Brown

In honor of Back to the Future Day, Helsinki City Museum will engage in some time travel. Join us and give some of the hottest technological marvels of their day a try. We have stereoscopes, View-Masters and 3D virtual reality gadgets. You’ll also have the opportunity to cut the rug to the tunes of the legendary pop group Aikakone. Entry to the event is, as always at the Helsinki City Museum, free of charge.

On Wednesday 21.10.2015, the world celebrates Back to the Future Day. That is the date on which Marty McFly, Jennifer Parker and doctor Emmet Brown arrive in the future in the second part of the trilogy of movies directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Helsinki City Museum at Sofiankatu 4 is one of the many places you can celebrate this special date and we are aiming to create a disturbance in the space-time continuum. You’ll have the opportunity to try out an early 20th century stereoscope, return to your childhood by peering through View-Masters from the 1950s and 1980s or take a peek into the future, courtesy of the newest 3D virtual reality gadgets.

Naturally, we’ll be showing all three Back to the Future movies, on old-fashioned cathode ray tube television sets. There’ll be an almost authentic De Lorean sports car, which will inspire you to help us design a real time machine. We’re building one for the new Helsinki City Museum, which opens on near Senate Square in May 2016.

The evening reaches its appropriate climax with a performance by the legendary Aikakone – their name translates into Time Machine. The band is making a comeback and their classic hits will transport you straight to the best parties of the 90s. We have room for 200 people.
