Helsinki City Museum is looking for a 2020s gym outfit for its collections
Do you have a sweaty gym outfit in your closet? Snap a photo or take a video of it. Your outfit could end up in the City Museum’s collections through a popular vote.
Helsinki gym enthusiasts are now encouraged to make sweaty history by suggesting 2020s gym outfits as part of the city museum’s collections. You can participate until February 25 by posting a photo or video of your gym outfit on Instagram that you would be willing to donate to the museum. Use the hashtag #munbodi in the post. Along with your photo, please tell us where in Helsinki you’ve been working out and what your most important memory associated with that outfit is. The most suitable outfit for the collection will be chosen by popular vote.
“When you want to preserve something truly authentic and contemporary, you should ask for help – in this case, from gym enthusiasts who know the most about these outfits,” says Satu Alaja, an object researcher at the City Museum.
The City Museum is interested in a complete, used outfit: top, bottom, shoes and any accessories. The museum will negotiate with the owner of the outfit about donating to the collections in exchange for compensation. All participants will also be entered into a raffle for a gift card to the City of Helsinki’s gyms.
The best outfits will be selected by a public vote, and the outfit with the most votes will be added to the collection. You can pick your favourite outfit on Helsinki City Museum’s Instagram @helsinginkaupunginmuseo 1–3 March 2024.
The campaign is part of the exhibition “Your Body – The Sweaty History of Gyms” open until February 25th.
