Holiday season and tips for the days in between
At Children’s Town, kids can play to their heart’s content throughout the holiday—morning till evening. There is also plenty to do for families with children in the Tram Museum. Both the City Museum and the Tram Museum are open on St. Stephen’s Day (26 December), New Year’s Eve (31 December), and Epiphany (6 January) from 11 am to 5 pm and follow normal opening hours on the days in between. Now is also a great time to visit the City Museum’s Helsinki Bites exhibition as it will be open for the last day on Sunday, 11 January 2026.
The Kortteleissa art project is projecting light art onto the window facing the Govinius Courtyard of the City Museum. Kortteleissa is a new 24/7 outdoor art event bringing contemporary art by young artists to the Torikorttelit district—into shop windows, onto balconies, and into courtyards until 7 January. Start your tour with us and see everything nearby.
More than 25,000 visitors have already explored the Helsinki by Night exhibition by Stefan Bremer at Villa Hakasalmi. The last free admission day of the year falls on St. Stephen’s Day, Friday 26 December, from 11 am to 5 pm. The villa is also open on New Year’s Eve (31 December) and Epiphany (6 January) from 11 am to 5 pm, as well as normally on the days in between. Always free entry with Museum Card.
Or come and listen to Topelius’s Christmas stories (in Finnish) on weekends at the Burgher’s House, located in Kruununhaka about a 10-minute walk from Senate Square. You can enjoy the Christmas atmosphere of Helsinki’s oldest wooden house also on St. Stephen’s Day, 26 December, and on New Year’s Eve, 31 December, as well as 27–28 December and 2–4 January from 11 am to 5 pm.
❤️ Please note that all museums are closed on Christmas Eve (24 December), Christmas Day (25 December), and New Year’s Day (1 January 2026). The Museum Shop at Aleksanterinkatu 16 is also closed on 2 January due to inventory. Wishing you a bright holiday season!
