The Worker’s Museum opens on the Night of the Arts
Want to drop by? The Worker’s Museum’s grand opening will be celebrated on Night of the Arts, 14 August, from 11:00 to 20:00. Atmosphere will be provided by DJ Old Crank, who will play shellac records on a hand-cranked gramophone from 17:00 onwards. The Worker’s Museum is located in Alppila, right next to Linnanmäki amusement park. The address is Kirstinkuja 4. The nearest public transport stops are Linnanmäki (north), Alppila, or Sturenkatu.
The museum, which presents workers’ lives and homes in the 20th century, reopens after renovations with many new features. Now you can explore the old house and the lives of its residents from basement to attic. From the opening, it’s easy to continue your evening in the city centre!
On Night of the Arts, other museums will also be open late
Start at Villa Hakasalmi, where the exhibition Glamour and Curtsy – Upstairs and Downstairs Life offers free entry from 17:00 to 22:00. Musicians from the Finnish Chamber Music Society will perform mini-concerts on the hour from 17:00, featuring music suited to the world of 19th-century manors.
In Kruununhaka, at the Burgher’s House Museum, there will be a bilingual courtyard concert for the whole family with old children’s songs and stories about domestic animals from times past. The children’s music group from Opera Tellus will perform at 18:00 and 19:00. The museum is open from 17:00 to 20:00.
At the City Museum’s Falkman Courtyard, short films and commercials about Helsinki and litter will be shown from 19:00 to 22:30 on a vintage analogue 35 mm film projector. You can visit the projection room from 19:00 in Falkman’s studio. Doors remain open until 23:00.
