Summer season and Pride start on 1 June
The City Museum’s exhibitions and events offer free activities and new experiences for children, young people and their adults on every day of the summer.
Starting 1 June, we open at 10:00 on summer mornings. You can come by and eat your snacks in our lobby or in our beautiful courtyards, and the parking area for prams is covered and shaded. The summer exhibition Trash! – What we leave behind surprises visitors with playful tasks that shed light on the dirty side of Helsinki. You can crawl into a sewer, play a sorting game or explore landfills. The event also offers the chance to repair old clothes and exchange toys and other items.
Happy Pride
June is a Pride month. The programme features walking tours offering glimpses to LGBT+ history, from Old Church Park to Observatory Hill Park. Please book your tickets (€12) online in advance. The Helsinki Pride week is celebrated 23–29 June, and on Saturday 28 June the City Museum will host the end ceremony of Youth Pride, in connection to which we will create a community art piece. We are looking forward to seeing you!
Tickets to Film Gardens on sale now
Warm summer evenings are even better with these unique outdoor cinema events on the City Museum’s Falkman courtyard 15–16 August. This summer’s repertoire features, by public request, the Finnish film classics Ihana seikkailu and Kulkurin Valssi by Toivo Särkkä, as well as the most epic love story of all time, Gone with the Wind.
The outdoor films of the Fascinating Film Garden will be screened with an old-time analogue 35 mm film projector, and refreshments can be bought from the El Fant. The tickets, €12–€15, are on sale now.
Worker’s Museum opens at the Night of the Arts
Wanna drop by? The Worker’s Museum will celebrate opening on August 14 from 11 am to 8 pm during the Night of the Arts. The museum’s updated interiors, touching personal stories from past residents, and immersive soundscapes of the era will offer a richer picture of working-class life in Helsinki. The Workers’ Museum is located in Vallila, right next to Linnanmäki amusement park.
