The Night of the Arts: The Unknown Suburb on the big screen
On the Night of the Arts, the Helsinki City Museum will present unique documentaries about Helsinki’s suburbs. Entry to the event is free of charge!
Before the screening of the Black Hole Mama documentary, film director Heidi Piiroinen will give a talk about the making of the film. The evening will culminate in an old-timey open-air theatre atmosphere, with short documentaries and commercials screened on an analogue film projector in the Falkman courtyard. El Fant Cafe & Bar will sell refreshments at the event, and the public will also have the opportunity to visit the projection room.
During the Night of the Arts, the museum exhibitions will be open until 23.00. Please note that the Children’s Town will close at 19.00 as usual. We hope to see you there!
Programme:
17.00–19.00 Clips from the suburbs (4A)
19.00–20.00 Heidi Piiroinen: Black Hole Mama (4A)
20.45-22.45 Short documentaries and commercials on an old-fashioned 35 mm analogue projector (Falkman courtyard)
The technical implementation of the films screened on the Falkman Courtyard will be carried out by Helsingin Studiopalvelut, with whom the Helsinki City Museum has been collaborating since 2018. The event is part of the The Unknown Suburb exhibition’s programme.
