Symbolien Helsinki (‘Helsinki of Symbols’) book event
Join us for fascinating stories from history and mythology in the form of a presentation and a walking tour on Wednesday 31 August at 17:00–19:00!
The event will be held at Helsinki City Museum and will be free of charge. The presentation and the walking tour will be held in Finnish.
The buildings of Helsinki are filled with various symbols. Symbol researcher Liisa Väisänen will take listeners on a journey to the stories and secrets behind the symbols in her presentation at the City Museum and on the subsequent walking tour in the surroundings of the museum.
The event is based on Väisänen’s brand new book Symbolien Helsinki – Opas pääkaupungin salaisuuksiin (‘Helsinki of Symbols – a Guide to the Secrets of the Capital City’). The book features ten walking routes exploring different districts of Helsinki. It provides information about the old buildings along the routes, the symbols of which tell fascinating stories from history and mythology. The book can also be purchased from the museum shop of Helsinki City Museum.
The event will start in the City Museum lobby at 17:00–17:45. The walking tour will start from the museum lobby at 18:15.
Liisa Väisänen (PhD) is a hardcore humanist, non-fiction author and art researcher who specialises in symbols. She may also be familiar to some from the YLE television show Merkkien salat.
