Garden party at the Worker Housing Museum
EDIT: The Alppila-Seura’s buffet has been canceled due to an illness.
The Worker Housing Museum’s flowerbed is full of old ornamental plants that used to adorn workers’ yards. In celebration of these plants, the museum is once again throwing a garden party on Friday 3 June from 14.00 to 17.00.
The party will include a small market where participants will be able to purchase seedlings and seeds from Hyötykasviyhdistys and Maatiainen, plants grown in allotment gardens and tasty treats from Alppila-Seura’s buffet. We recommend that you take cash with you. Sibbo Spelmanslag will play folk music to create a summery atmosphere.
This time, the theme of the garden party is traditional wood construction, of which the museum building is an excellent example. 14.00 Building Conservator Jaana Perttilä from the City Museum will talk about the wooden houses on Kirstinkuja and their journey from shacks to a museum and modern residences. 15.00 Architect Pekka Saatsi will present the art of repairing old buildings with a hand-on approach, and at 16.00 City Museum Architect Mikko Lindqvist will introduce visitors to the wooden Art Nouveau buildings of Helsinki. To end the event at 17.00, the Finnish Dendrological Society will host a walk-in a nearby park, examining the uses of wood from different species of trees.
Free entry. Welcome!
